We loved our stay at Sa's! We planned to go to Sapa originally but re-routed to Bac Ha when a typhoon closed the road from Lao Cai to Sapa. We were so happy for the accident! Bac Ha was gorgeous and Sa's was perfect.
Sa's house is located a little away from town so it feels like a real rural retreat. There are ducks and chickens on the property and our private room for three had a view of the mountains. The room was simple but had everything we needed- a platform bed with wifi and a fan. Best of all, it had both a porch overlooking the mountains where we did yoga in the morning and read books in the evening. The bathroom is shared, but perfectly adequate.
Sa's family makes the homestay run. Sa's wife cooks really good food for three meals a day and his sweet son, Nam An, serves the food. We loved getting to know them and sharing some moonshine with Sa at dinners. The homestay also offers motorbike rentals for a few dollars a day which is a great way to explore the area.
Sa was so helpful in planning our trip to Bac Ha serving as our travel agent while we were there! He planned three days of trekking for us complete with a boat ride down a beautiful river. He arranged a local Hmong guide to show us the mountains where we saw some of the most beautiful sights of our lives. This was an unforgettable experience and we are so grateful to Sa for helping us make it happen!
– “Wonderful homestay experience!”
Good location - outside of the centre (about 900m) - just be ready for some animal noises early morning (but I enjoyed it:) Very nice, comfortable, clean rooms and bathroom. Great family atmospehere, delicious dinner. Highly recommended!
– “Great country-side atmosphere ”
Only got to spend one night there but it was very nice ! Sa was very kind and his family ! I had so much fun playing with his 5 years old daughter during dinner ! Food was delicious and room very comfy and clean.
Wish there's was a place to hang out outside like hammock or comfortable seating but for the rest thumb up !!!
Obviously for those who expect quiet time without any noice or peace and quiet go to the Hilton !!! It's a village so expect .. Roaster's, Dogs barking and waking up early ! But isn't the fun of an homestay !!!!
– “Cozy homestay, nice people !”
We spent just one night at Sa's, and could have stayed a little longer. We made the effort to go to Bac Ha for the weekend market, definitely a high light. We really liked Sa's because it was in the country, maybe 1.5 km out of town. Be prepared for animal noises, The rooms are newly built, quite basic with a shared tiolet and shower. They were full the night we were there, which gave a bit of a party atmosphere at the dinner. Nice to chat with other travellers.
Quite a lovely family. Thanks Sa!
– “Off the beaten track, just how we like it”
Sa house is off the beaten track - even sleepy Bac Ha is a twenty minute walk down a country lane - but that's its attraction. Beautiful hill walks on the doorstep. Motorbike hire for neighbouring markets - some as good as Bac Ha's own Sunday market where Flower Hmong come in force - and the gorgeous Chay River. Perfect location. Sa is an extremely hospitable and interesting host: a good drinking companion when the corn "wine" - actually distilled moonshine - gets flowing. I visited in March 2016 and hope to return in September for the harvest, flowers and I hope) clear skies.
