  • Nam Cang Riverside Lodge

    Some Key Facts:

    • The lodge is built mainly of wood, and the interiors reflect this, with polished wooden ceilings, walls, and often the floor too. Bedrooms are basic but attractive, with white bedlinen, wicker furniture, and pretty rattan lampshades. Bathrooms have stone floors, white tiles, and modern fixtures, all complemented by a view over the river.
    • Meals are traditional Vietnamese dishes cooked over an open fire by a talented local chef, and served at big wooden tables in the lodge’s dining room. A long open terrace overlooks the river, with comfortable conservatory-style furniture in which to sink back and absorb the deep tranquillity and river valley sounds.
    • There’s no pool - of course there’s no pool - but how about a swim in the river instead, weather and water level permitting? For entertainment, the village boasts two expert silversmiths who specialise in handcrafted jewellery, a bamboo papermaker, dozens of skilled weavers, embroiderers and seamstresses, and fishing lessons in the river. This region also offers fantastic trekking, and the Hoang Lien National Park protects hundreds of species including many indigenous birds and endangered amphibians.

A very remote, rural lodge situated by a rocky river deep in Hoang Lien mountain range, just over 22 miles from Sapa town. Owned and run by a Red H’mong couple, the lodge offers comfortable rooms, shared Western style loos, and direct access to Nam Cang village and its Red H’mong population.

This off-the-beaten-track lodge is the place to go if you like simple and low key places. It is situated at the end of a village by a river - where had a lovely swim after we arrived from our day hike through various ethnic minorities villages.
We had the best night sleep there! Not sure if it was the mountain air, the hike or the sound of the water rushing by...
A very serene place. NB> Reading a bit further down whilst reviewing.... The area around this hotel in not known for nightlife, nor restaurants, nor shopping, nor museums, nothing... it's just a place in the middle of nowhere. And that's what's great about it...

    “Off the beaten track”

As soon as me and a friend arrived we were very welcomed! They were also extremely attention to detail with our needs. The food where the ingredients were freshly bought at the local markets and made was amazing! We ate so much we thought we couldn't eat for the next week. The rooms are pleasant and the view from the lodge is spectacular. You see locals every now and then washing clothes by the riverside or transporting bamboo. It was an unforgettable experience in Sapa with Topas Travel and this part of the trip definitely added to it!

“Enjoyable stay, beautiful view of local life”

we stayed for 1 night as part of a 4 day tour with Topas Travel. Lodge is situated in village at end of a valley. Great spot to see how hill tribe villagers actually live and carry about their day to day activities with no one hassling you to by their wares. Lodge was simple yet fitting for the environment. Beds were really comfy. Verandah was great for looking over the river. Meals were filling and family who ran the lodge was very accommodative. My wife and daughter had herbal baths in a barrel, which eased away the aches for a days hiking. A fireplace is about to be built which will warm the lodge on cold nights.

    “Remote village stay”

Very remote location, outside the last village in the valley, which means that you're really off the beaten track. Not even reachable by car as the street ends within the village which means that you must carry your stuff the last meters (only a few minutes though), with the advantage that there's absolutely no traffic disturbing the setting - the only thing you hear at night is the river rushing by direcly underneath the balcony. The staff was very nice, and we were served a variety of typical Vietnamese food for lunch and dinner. Unfortunately we could spend only one night there but would have loved to stay longer!

“Great location, superb food, nice staff”

We spent just one night here, which, right at the moment we saw the lodge, regret not to stay longer. The lodge located at the end of a remote Red Dao ethnic village 37km from Sapa, which makes it both separate and mix with local life, and by beautiful Nam Cang river where you can bath after a long trek. Sleep in and wake up to the south of water running is among our best experience. And enjoying morning coffee and breakfast looking over the river is just more than any pleasure. The only problem is that the lodge is not offered for accommodation only, you have to buy a package, but then there are many choices to choose, either romantic, relax or adventure. We chose a hard trek adventure which was so awesome with scenic trails and remote local villages and could not say anything other than: So great!!!

“Perfect location, great food, off the beaten track trek - highly recommend!”
