Set on 1km of deserted beach overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, and amongst 20 hectares of wild gardens and protected forest, Mango Bay has a lot to shout about.
The rustic-style eco-resort is amongst the finest we’ve had the pleasure of visiting, with several of the Selective Asia team choosing to spend their holidays here in recent years. While the resort is undoubtedly not the place for gadget-lovers and the amenities-hungry, the team at Mango Bay deliver 'the basics' to perfection, in the process creating the ideal getaway for clients looking to escape the modern world for a day or two, or to simply unpack their bags and unwind after a few ‘hard’ weeks on the road!
There are a range of hut and bungalow styles to choose from, most of which feature open-air bathrooms, with something for every budget. The terrace restaurant serves exceptional Vietnamese and western fusion cuisine in a relaxed, social atmosphere, while the resort boasts a superb butterfly and endangered species garden, a beach bar, water sports facilities and a wellness centre. Mango Bay Resort is on another level compare to any resort that you can find on the Island. They offer a much different experience than of the ordinary 4 squared hotel rooms. This place is a retreat for a worried soul and a perfect way too end after you have been days on the bustling city of hanoi and ho chi minh.
I stayed here with my Girl Friend for 4 days and 3 nights, from August 16 to 19, 2016. There weather was okay. I expected it to be rainy but it was nothing like that at all. There were a couple of drizzles on the morning when we wake up and a night as we go to bed, but it serves as a good background to the sound of crickets and gekos at night.
We stayed at a "Plantation Bungalow with Sea View", and when then mean sea view. I can Literally see the waters from the Bed. The room was nice and white and the windows allows the breeze to cool the room. There is no AC on the room by the way but there were a couple of fans in the room. The outdoor shower and toilet took a bit of getting use too but after one day, we found it very private and a new type of experience as you shower with actual rain.
I choose Mango Bay Resort as I was looking for a beach setting to plan my surprise proposal to my Girl Friend of 3 years. There were a couple of hotels i could have gone but Mango Bay's management team made the difference.
Even months before my stay at their hotel, they entertained my queries and all of my request for my Wedding Proposal. I requested for a romantic dinner setup by the beach with 2 dozen of white roses, sound arrangements and a photographer to capture the moment.
The management staff lead by Mr. Doi and his crew of Miss Le, Miss Ha and Michelle from their head office was very much accommodating. The very moment I've arrived Mr. Doi took me away from my girl friend to clarify all the details and upon the actual day itself. All my request my there and there were about 4-5 staff that arranged everything for me, walkie talked every step as she walk towards the surprise and giving me the signal to enter in with flowers at hand.
Everything was perfect, i couldn't ask more from them and they went above and beyond for a stranger like me. " They are like my Genie" they granted my every wish and I am now soon to be Wed. She said "YES".
The hotel, re-energizes people, and has that feel of not letting you ever want to leave. There are so much things you can do here and its for free. You can go kayak, snorkel , or borrow a bike. You can also avail the free morning yogas or take some board and card games from the reception. This place is such a good place to disconnect and enjoy time. As time here is slow paced and the start of the morning is signalled by sound and rustling leaves as there are swept in the morning and night are noted by the turn down service of the staff to light your mosquito coils and bring down the mosquito nets of your beds. I would really recommend Mango Bay as you can savor every last bit of your holiday here.

We stayed at Mango Bay Resort for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. The welcome was very friendly and we even got a free airport pick-up (stay over 3 nights). Our bungalow was extremely roomy and the seaview is beautiful. We also liked the open-air bathroom which gives you a truly natural feeling. Both restaurants (beach bar & on the rocks) offer ambitious western and vietnamese food. We would recommend eating at the beach bar for lunch and having dinner at on the rocks. During breakfast a great variety of different "menus" is offered (healthy, french, english ...) as well as a fresh fruit basket, juices, jams and homemade bread. To sum it up this place is great and we were very sad to leave!
– “Very relaxing stay at a wonderful beach resort”
My wife and I heard about this hotel and restaurant from a friend. She said we had to go there for dinner! We are happy she said so. It is about a 10-15 minutes taxi drive north from Duong Dong, and it is with no doubt worth the trip.
The restaurant has a big terrace built on the rocks facing the waves. It was really romantic eating and drinking just above the splashing waves on the softly lit terrace.
You should definitely visit the restaurant at 6pm, to see the sunset and stay while the stars reveal themselves.
We were there in August, i.e during rain season. This means mostly one or a few showers a day, and the rest of the day sun with a welcoming breeze. Some days you will not have any rain. In any case, the ocean on the west coast is rather lively and dramatic during this time, adding to the romantic dinner experience.
In a word; worth a visit, especially for dinner during may-nov.
– “Cosiest place for dinner”
Mango Bay is a beautiful place to stay that has a real "away from it all" feeling. If it's modern concrete blocks you are looking for, don't come. The wooden structures blend into the trees and the shore line. There's no aircon but several fans In each room. Our bungalow had 2 bedrooms and was spacious and clean with a wonderful veranda for watching the sunset. The staff were really lovely and great with the kids. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the happy hour cocktails. I'm sure we will be back.
– “We loved it!”
If you're looking for hermetically-sealed air-conditioned luxury where you can shut out the reality of tropical life when you go back to your room, Mango Bay is probably not for you. On the other hand, if you appreciate an establishment who make every effort to limit their impact on the environment and help support the local community, and you don't mind sharing your room with the local bugs and geckos, you'll love it. Gorgeous scenery, great food and facilities, and friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful.
